David Roos (Amsterdam, 2000) is acteur, schrijver en theatermaker. Sinds zijn afstuderen aan de Toneelacademie Maastricht in 2022 werkt hij vanuit Brussel, waar hij ook filosofie studeert. Als acteur was hij verbonden aan o.a. Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, Ontroerend Goed en de Toneelmakerij. Daarnaast is hij lid van het collectief Schwung, waarvoor hij de voorstelling Startschot schreef, en maakt hij fysiek beeldend werk met Tabor Idema. Verder schrijft en speelt hij onder eigen naam, onder meer bij Frascati.
Zijn werk is talig, filosofisch en humoristisch. Puttend uit de literaire en artistieke geschiedenis verbindt hij allerhande bronnen tot een persoonlijk en eigentijds verhaal. Dicht op het publiek en gebruikmakend van zo min mogelijk techniek gaat hij zo op zoek naar een overstijgende theatrale ervaring. Thema’s die daarbij terugkeren zijn schijn en werkelijkheid, de Holocaust, (groeps)identiteit en de grenzen van taal.
Zijn meest recente werk, de solovoorstelling Pygmalion, of de billen van het beeld, toert in seizoen 25-26 door Nederland.
David Roos (Amsterdam, 2000) is an actor, writer, and theatre maker. Since graduating from the Toneelacademie Maastricht in 2022, he has been based in Brussels, where he studies philosophy. As an actor, he has worked with, among others, Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, Ontroerend Goed, and De Toneelmakerij. He is a member of the collective Schwung, for which he wrote the performance Startschot, and he creates physical, visual work with Tabor Idema. In addition, he writes and performs under his own name, including at Frascati.
His work is language-based, philosophical, and humorous. Drawing on literary and artistic history, he weaves together a wide range of sources into a personal and contemporary narrative. Working close to the audience and with minimal use of technology, he seeks a transcendent theatrical experience. Recurring themes in his work include dream and reality, the Holocaust, (group) identity, and the limits of language.
His most recent work, the solo performance Pygmalion, of de billen van het beeld, will tour the Netherlands in the 25–26 season.
